New Zealanders are likely to play an increasingly significant role in the outcome of future Australian elections, as a record number of them shifted across the Tasman over the last 12 months. Australia's strong economic growth, the skilled labour shortage and higher wages have all proved an irresistible attraction for an increasing number of footloose Kiwis. The latest statistics show net migration in the past 12 months of New Zealanders to Australia was 26,500, which is 7,000 more than last year.
